Although nicknames may be registered they are not limited by any means unless you tell services to limit them. You can tell services to do this by issuing one of the following commands:
/msg nickserv set kill on
or
/msg nickserv set kill quick on

If your advised to, which you will be in 99.9% of cases to use kill then you will no doubt be curious what it does. Kill itself means pretty much that, in short if you registered your nickname and only wish yourself to be able to use your nickname then setting kill will give a user one minute to identify to the nickname otherwise failing to identify will change there nick to a different one.
Setting kill with the quick option on does the same thing, but with a greatly decreased amount of time to identify to the nickname, 20 seconds.

Click on the address book icon in the mIRC toolbar -> go to the "Highlight" tab -> Here you will find the Highlighting option found under IRC in the left pane of the mIRC options in previous versions of mIRC Provided by Fersure on the forums
